I will always remember uncle Leon as being the most loving, caring an exceptionally funny uncle that he was.

My fondest memory when I was a child was going to bingo with the family. Uncle leon used to always tell the funniest dirty jokes which James and I ofcause always had to pretend to not understand

He will be dearly missed by anyone and everyone that met him. Until we meet again, keep grampa and the rest of the family company until we all meet again

The Kriels were one of the first families I met when I arrived in Australia; at first on holidays visiting my family and then when I moved over to Aus in 2010. My first memory of Uncle Leon was him pulling out an unlabelled beer bottle from the fridge - it immediately got my attention! I asked, "What's with these brown unlabelled beers in the fridge?" to which Leon began to explain home brewing and that its pretty big in Australia. I tried one of Leon's beers that night and I fell in love with home brewing - something that has remained a hobby ever since. Last weekend we kegged 60L of Pale Ale, which we brewed the week Leon passed. I'll be thinking of him as we drink this - his infectious laugh, his genuine character and his love for his family. To Debbie, Andrew, Alia & little Asher and James & Mish, sending all my love to you and the rest of the family. You're all in my thoughts and heart. Hopefully I can visit you soon! Love Ryan

Would not let me share all of my message, here's the bit I cut out the middle:

A couple of years ago, I was so fortunate to see Debbie and Leon in WA went I was over for work. It was a hot, sunny, blue sky day - we took a trip on the boat finished with Oysters and beers on the wharf in the peak summer heat. It was such a great day and I'm so grateful to have had that time with both of them. We had some pretty deep and meaningful conversations, while enjoying doing nothing in particular. I will always remember this, but especially Leon and Debbie's hospitality and generosity - I was treated like I was one of their own boys. Thank you. ❤️ Ryan

I met Leon and Debs in 2013. Coming in from S.Africa. we became great friends here in Mandurah. Had so many great times together. Lekka braais and fishing trips. Noot vir noot evenings. So many laughs. Also got hooked on the brew on tap method. Bought Leons old settup and have it in my bar at home. This was really sad news. Donna and I are so very sorry to have lost a best friend. May God be with you Debbie. And Andrew and Alia and Asher. And you James. You can be very proud of your great dad. He was a great husband, father, soldier, and worker and could do anything. We will miss him dearly.

Leon, one of our lifelong best friends and surely the only mate we have ever known to tell such incredibly funny stories. We will never forget how he managed to capture everyone's attention with his hilarious stories which were always so funny they just could not be true but they were. Wherever Leon was he had some hilarious and long story to tell. Leon had a very special way that no-one else has. Our good old days at Kenton, Leon's fish braais when that fish just never got braaid when too many beers were flowing. You will be missed sorely mate. We WILL NEVER forget about thee scarf blowing in die wind (in French accent). A true legend gone but never forgotten. Leon fly high my friend, we will be playing Pictionary one day again. See you on the flip side. Heaven has gained a true angel. You will forever hold a special place in our hearts for the rest of our lives. Much love Karen and Keith
