David Cooke

David was a generous, loyal and kind man. He answered my call for help and arrived to take us, ( the Warumpi Band) to the next level. I will be forever grateful for the many years of struggle he put in and the sacrifices he made, to make us a successful band that delivered an important message to the nation. His commitment and belief in us was unshakeable. Many times he kept us going when I thought all was lost. Through the sweet triumphs and the shattering disappointments , we forged a lasting bond. I'm going to miss not being able to catch up with him and laugh heartily over our shared memories. RIP "Cookie". With respect and love, Neil.

At home in Katoomba this morning, I was joined in the garden by so many birds, making a big racket as they feasted on spring blossoms: Cockatoos both black & sulphur-crested, King Parrots, Rosellas, Corelllas, wattle-birds, magpies, Currawongs, many different wrens, finches, flycatchers, and even the local flock of native ducks. I choose to believe they were here to help me farewell David. I met him working with the Warumpi Band, and came to know his particular gentle genius. He was an innovator and pioneer, and his contributions to indigenous music cannot be overstated, and continues even to this day. He was a 'Clever Man'.
My heartfelt condolences to Dewi, his family and the many who love him.
