I met Darby in Collinsville at my big mate Kerry Walls Town & Country Hotel, in 1988. Kerry & Lesley bought the T&C that year & I went to Collinsville to give my mate a hand. Helping the pub rock along on the weekends & New Year's Eve. I met Darby at the pub & found him to be a real Aussie Larakin. What a great bloke. He will be missed. RIP Darby.

This great man was also a great6 friend when we lived in Collinsville in the early 1950s. Along with by Cousin, Edward (Ted) BUTTEWORTH and Darby we knocked around together and created some fantastic memories.

I remember on one occasion, my Grandmother, Maud ASHLEY (of Pelican Street) was celebrating her birthday and not being a heavy drinker, she had a few and ended up dancing on the table with her dress tucked into her bloomers, do the highland Fling. Darby, Ted and myself were under the verandah calling out to her to stop and letting off Double Happy crackers.

R.I.P. my friend. You will feel no pain anymore. You will always be in my heart and memories.

I am saddened by the loss of a genuine all round good man. Darby was one of my mentors who guided me through my apprenticeship and first years as a tradesmen. A better person you will likely never met. My condolences to Darbys family.

At 2PM today, 13th November 2019,an event occurred which took one of my best mates to the Lords Realm to join another of his (and)my best mates Bert Hagel OAM. For those who knew him, you would understand my words: for those who did not I will sum this man up in as few words as possible. "Darby Munro was a Soldier Sapper, a National Serviceman who served our Nation with out question, he was a coal miner, a poet, a man of honour yet a man who spoke his mind, a loyal mate and confidant and friend to many. In brief, he will always be remembered as the quintessential Australian, Miner, bushman, cattleman and mate". To Misha his children and his grandchildren and family, to all those who knew him; I offer my condolences to one of the best mates a man could wish for. Rest in peace until we meet again Darby old mate! Speedie

“I only had the privilege of meeting Darby on 2 occasions. The first was at the Victor Harbour SA, Reunion, and then again at the recent Forbes NSW, Reunion. What a great effort it was by Darby to get to that last Reunion with his mates of many years. At Forbes, we were told of Darby’s condition, so oh! how we lied as we farewelled Darb on the Saturday night, saying almost to a man and woman, “See you in Batemans in 2 years, Darb!”. And I wonder how much Darby really knew when he answered with a smile and a handshake or wave, “Yeah! see you in 2 years!”?I read somewhere the following little prayer:“Say not in grief that he is no more But in thankfulness that he was”.
