I am gutted to have just found this announcement about Dale. I met Dale in 1979 when we were both travelling on the Trans-Siberian Railway to London. All the Aussies/Canadians/Brits/others on the “not Soviets” car were young and full of fun. We kept in touch. He visited me in Canada a few years later and then in 1995, my husband and I visited him in Mackay. He took us on a day trip by small plane to Bushy Atoll. It was a trip of a lifetime. We’ve kept in touch by email all these years. I will never forget it or him. He was generous, funny, warm, and I feel so lucky that I met him and called him a friend. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

  • Genuinely shocked at finding out about Dale’s passing.

Known Dale for decades through his business.

Will miss his humour and genuine care.

As a stalwart of Mackay he will be missed by many, including me.

Sincere condolences to you Kaew and family, we were so sad to hear that Dale had passed away. Nothing phased Dale, he was a gentle giant and a kind generous man. I first met Dale in the late sixties/early seventies when I was a member of the Eimeo Trail Blazers, Dale supplied the amplifiers for the race meetings. Dale was always tinkering with motor bikes and I remember on one occasion Dale put a 125 Honda twin motor in a Bantam Beezer frame and I rode it for him in a speedyway race at the Mackay Show Grounds. Dale used to hang around Wally Kurkowski’s motor bike shop in Wood St and there was a group of local riders, Don Phiminister, Michael Crawley, Peter Goodson, George Camilleri and David Symons who were involved in short circuit and scrambles track racing.

We lived locally in Goldsmith Street and bumped into Dale frequently throughout the years, I feel like I had known Dale all my life.

  • Dale was one of the reasons I was drawn to stage and music. As a kid, he would allow me to sit with him and annoy the shit out of him while he was mixing bands at the sound shell. He always made sure we were able to sty on the road as young musicians, hiring and selling us his ex-hire gear, even gave us a van at cost to help us tour. A gentleman and an institution of Australian music. RIP old mate.

  • Dale was a wonderful man, full of knowledge and generous with his time. I appreciate the patience he had in teaching me Sound over many years. He taught me to clap the loudest for people who needed the most encouragement to keep practising and performing. Thank you for your service to the community, Dale. You have taught us well and have earned your rest.
